(Re-)scheduled downtime on Identi.ca Thu 18 Jun 3:30PM EDT
Update: for technical reasons we've postponed this upgrade; we'll schedule downtime for the weekend within 24 hours.
At Control Yourself, we're all excited to be making our first release of the 0.8.x version of Laconica this week. The release will coincide with our move of identi.ca to the new status.net platform, and will start the private beta period for that microblog-hosting service (see status.net coming soon for more information). It's a really big time for us!
Our original intention was to release early on Wednesday morning, to precede my talk at Open Source Bridge. However, the developments in Iran, and the good example of delayed maintenance at Twitter, made us feel that rescheduling was in order.
Consequently, we'll be upgrading our services on Thursday, June 18th at 12:30PM PDT (3:30PM EDT), which is midnight in Tehran. The downtime will be about 1 hour, but we're working on other ways to keep service uninterrupted for some users. Our federated model means that 99%+ of servers on the OpenMicroBlogging network will remain online while identi.ca is moved and upgraded.
We realize that this is a slightly inconvenient time for Americans, Canadians, and others in the western hemisphere, and we appreciate their patience during this upgrade. We hope the new features of Laconica, and the development of our status.net service, offsets this inconvenience.
