Walkah Joins StatusNet

Hey there status lovers, I'm James Walker (aka @walkah). Some of you may remember me from such open source projects as Drupal, but as part of my new 2010 changes, I am branching out into some new projects. I am excited to announce that I'll be working with StatusNet as a Software Services Architect.

I met Evan back at Social Web FooCamp in April, 2009, but I'd been following StatusNet (then called laconi.ca) for a while already at that time. I am a huge believer in Open Source software and with the rising prominence of microblogging, an Open Source alternative to the existing services is (I believe) a natural and necessary evolution. But, more than that, I believe in Open Standards and protocols. StatusNet understands the importance of federation between sites, and has been working to advance the OpenMicroBlogging protocol as a part of the core strategy.

I'll be working with Evan and the awesome team he's assembled to help evolve and further the adoption of what we're now calling OStatus (more on that soon) to bring cross-network, real-time conversations to this crazy world of public micro-messaging. Of course, status.net is a Drupal site, so having a Drupal guy around doesn't hurt either ;-) You'll be able to reach me at james@status.net or via http://identi.ca/walkah .

Here's to a free and open web!
