StatusNet in the Google Summer of Code 2010
We're really excited to have been picked as an official mentor organization for Google Summer of Code 2010. Google has been providing this excellent program of grants for college students to work on Open Source projects during their break. The students get a chance to work with an established team of developers and work on some really cool code, and projects like StatusNet get contributions from students putting in full time on a project.
Now is the time for students who are interested in GSoC to think about which projects they want to work on. We've got a StatusNet Google Summer of Code 2010 page on the StatusNet wiki, which outlines how students can participate. It's got a couple dozen ideas for projects, as well as contact info for our mentor team and ideas for how to get a hold of us.
I highly encourage potential GSoC applicants to contact us on IRC at #statusnet or in #gsoc, or on our mailing list, or using the StatusNet GSoC 2010 group on identi.ca (special awesome points if you subscribe from your own StatusNet site!). We're eager to get you involved.
I can't think of a cooler project for a student to be working on in 2010 than StatusNet. We're doing some of the most interesting work on the social web -- building a rich, distributed social network with tens of thousands of sites connected, including big services like Google Buzz and Tumblr. It's really fun and interesting to work on and your GSoC project could make a real difference for thousands of people.

Major is not important
Andy,
As far as I know, all you have to be is a student in a university. http://socghop.appspot.com/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2010/fa... "Computer Science does not need to be your field of study in order to participate in the program."
That's great news!
Very awesome guys!
