StatusReport: Post SXSW LibrePlanet + Slides

We survived SXSW! Evan and I both spoke on panels at the amazing event *web people* call SXSW in Austin Texas.

The panel I participated in, titled, "Can you copyright a tweet?," led off with Fred Benenson and Wendy Seltzer providing many examples of IP issues with status updates at or under 140 characters. I then stepped out and talked about StatusNet and with our software, how you can set your own character limit from 1 character all the way up to unlimited. And, to inaugurate to test those limits Evan blogged about previously, I created 1.status.net :)

However, this still could not be topped by Sockington attending our talk which allowed me to plug the excellent Dreamhost-based StatusNet installation, PetStatus, a status updating service for pets! Here are my 20 slides from the event, which I hope you will use whenever you want to talk about StatusNet.

After SXSW, countless meetings and following up on leads for our various initiatives, I flew to LibrePlanet, the Free Software conference, in Boston and met many StatusNet and Identi.ca users like RMS, Rob Meyers, Matt Lee and Bradley Kuhn. It is amazing to be at an event where nearly everyone has an Identi.ca account. While recovering from SXSW, the hottest topic for StatusNet and myself were the sessions by Luis Villa, Bradley Kuhn, Mako, and Matt Lee on Free Network Services. We at StatusNet are big believers in Free Network Services. Please check out http://autonomo.us if you are interested in this topic.

So, after launching our hosted StatusNet Cloud Service and the StatusNet Enterprise Network, then attending massive conferences, we have our heads down once more hacking on upcoming releases, new products, and will be hitting Texas Linux Fest, DC CodeAthon, and more events in the coming weeks. As always, we want to do more StatusCamps and StatusChecks in your cities. If you are interested, message me at http://rejon.status.net! And, in the coming weeks we are working on some fun community initiatives to encourage development of more themes, plugins and spreading StatusNet. Right now, you can already download loads of graphics to use on your website, at StatusCamps, and StatusChecks. Let us know where you use the graphics and please upload your own fun graphics. If you do, send me a message and I'll get you a StatusNet t-shirt!
