Google Summer of Code 2010 Student Shashi Gowda Implementing Lists

Jon Phillips's picture

This is the second post in a new series of posts that are written by our Google Summer of Code 2010 Students. Second up is Shashi Gowda mentored by StatusNet Developer (and Developer Relations Guy), Zach Copley. And please note, the students do get bonus points for calling any of us all-stars :) (Just Kidding).

Ahoy-hoy! I am Shashi Gowda (http://identi.ca/shashi). This summer I will be working with my mentor, Zach Copley, and the rest of the all-star StatusNet team as a Google Summer of Code student to implement a feature similar to Twitter lists on StatusNet. My project also includes development of a Twitter-compatible lists API and federated list subscriptions & memberships over the awesome OStatus federation protocol. It will be built on the people tagging functionality that StatusNet already has. You can find details and status updates from the development by hitting the http://status.net/wiki/Lists Wiki Page I have started for the project. My 140 character updates go here.

StatusNet is the most awesomest web-based software project that has the finest community of users and developers. It is super surreal to be working on StatusNet and getting a bag o' goodies for doing it. ;-) Looking forward to the best summer yet!

Thanks Shashi! Keep up the great work this summer. Soon we will hear from more of our Google Summer of Code Students 2010.

A Break From Snaking Around

Shashi,

Good to hear that this will keep you from snaking around for a bit!

Time for you to stop indenting your code and do it the messy way.

Here's wishing you all the very best. Can't wait to see what you cook up in the summer heat.

Congratulations , that's a super cool project.
