Hello StatusNet Community! This is Derek reporting to you from StatusNet in Montreal, and here is the latest StatusNet Update.

One of five students that is participating in this years GSoC for StatusNet has been working on implementing people tags which will be StatusNet's simile to Twitter lists. Shashi has spent many hours
brainstorming with mentors, including Zach and other StatusNet developers. Shashi says that "the
learning and the coding have been a lot of fun so far!"

Here is what Shashi has completed thus far:

0. Private and public people tags, subscriptions and updating inboxes
1. Twitter-lists compatible API
2. The user interface:
1. timelines for people tags
2. ajax tag editing interface and ajax people search
3. streams of people tags, tag cloud
3. OStatus salmon code (no UI yet)

Some parts that are still a work in progress include:
1. Test the OStatus salmon code, make the web UI
2. People tag sidebar widgets
3. Finer caching
4. Allow for comprehensive configuration options
5. Documentation

You can see finer details about the progress on the wiki page. Here is the latest code and there is a test install for you to try out right now!

Shashi is eager to hear feedback from you! Also, please report the bugs you
find by adding them to the bottom of the wiki page or you can ask Shashi or on the #statusnet irc channel. Shashi and StatusNet want to make
people tagging as engaging, as efficient and as fun as possible!
