StatusReport: Federated Social Web Summit Success & StatusNet students hard-at-work for Google Summer of Code (GSoC)!
Hello StatusNet community! This is Derek reporting to you from StatusNet in Montreal. StatusNet is pleased to announce that the Federate Social Web Summit was a great success. It was encouraging to see all the invitees that made it to the Summit in support of the mouvement towards an Open Web!

Our students for the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) have come up with updates on the progress of their work for StatusNet. Another one of the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) projects was an IRC interface plug-in basics. StatusNet is currently working on extending it to offer commands from channels not just private messages. Follow the progress of the IRC interface plug-in here.

The presentation given by Jon Phillips (Community Director at StatusNet) at the 11th International Free Software Forum (FISL), was entitled Building an Autonomous Federated Social Web: OStatus, Status.Net, and Identi.ca 1.0. It included a slide-show covering a variety of topics including StatusNet and Identica.
In a blog post entitled Federated Social Web Summit Notes, Ozten talks about his experience of having attended the Federated Social Web Summit, and he provides us with a slide-show of pictures from the event.
In a blog post entitled StatusNet Expands to the Desktop; Truly Control Your Own Twitter, Kristen Nicole talks about the launch of the StatusNet Desktop Client and some of the great things StatusNet has to offer.
In this Open Office.org Conference(OOoCon) Announcement, entitled Staying up to date during OOoCon, it states how Identi.ca and StatusNet were the official microblogging networks used during OOoCon, rather than Twitter.

Upcoming Events
Coming up on Sunday, August 1, 2010, is the GNU social Alpha release. GNU social is a social network, based on StatusNet, that uses a series of plug-ins, themes and templates to deliver on top of the StatusNet foundation.
