Open Social State of the Union 2011
I'm going to be speaking at the upcoming OpenSocial State of the Union 2011 on Thursday. I'm excited about the newest directions that OpenSocial has been taking for the last few months, and I think OpenSocial has a critical role to play in the development of heterogeneous, integrated social networks.
The new 2.0 version of the spec will, I believe, bring it more in line with the mainstream work on Activity Streams. I think the rationalization of the two models for activity syndication means that enterprise developers can start using just one serialisation standard for externalising and consuming feeds. And, for products that are Activity Streams native, like StatusNet 1.0, support for OpenSocial 2.0 is going to be that much easier.
I was fortunate enough to be elected as the community board member for OpenSocial this year, and I've been really impressed by the level of personal and organisational commitment.
The State of the Union event is sold out tomorrow*, but I highly recommend that people interested in OpenSocial follow along on the Web. Lots of interesting work going on.
* ...but let me know if you're interested and I'll see what I can do.
