Big loss of data on Identi.ca

Evan Prodromou's picture

We've had a big loss of data on identi.ca. All data created between about 18:00 UTC 22 Oct 2011 and about 17:00 UTC 27 Oct 2011 is missing from our databases. Data

Cause of the data loss isn't clear at this time. I changed our master/slave configuration last weekend, which might explain the problem if data wasn't being written, but it wouldn't explain why it's apparently working again.

I'm investigating the problem and hopefully we'll be able to recover that historical data.

I apologize sincerely for this problem. I appreciate the trust people put in me and in StatusNet to maintain their data, and this isn't the kind of support you expect or deserve.

UPDATE: I found it! The site had been directing traffic to the wrong back-end database server. I think I should be able to recover it. There's going to be some problems with duplicate IDs, but I think I can fix that.

Thanks

Thanks for writing this post and for the work that you're doing, it's appreciated :-)

Unfortunately there don't seem to be many on identi.ca who know about this blog since some are complaining of a lack of communication or explanation.

Great you found it :)

Ni!

Thanks for all the effort Evan, this being a gratis service without advertisement or exploitation, I feel I can only thank you and hope someday I can set up my own statusnet server to contribute.

Cheers and keep up the good spirits,

ale

Shift happens
