Scheduled downtime 30 Oct 2011 22:00 EDT

I'm scheduling some downtime for this evening to fix up our database server situation.

2011-10-30 22:28 EDT: took identi.ca down. I need to set up replication between our master server and a slave server, which requires stopping all writes to the database.

2011-10-30 23:04 EDT: started transferring cold backup of master database server to new slave. Looks like about an hour to get that done.

 2011-10-31 00:04 EDT: 5 more minutes.

2011-10-31 07.56 EDT: Argh! I'd backed up the /var/log/mysql/ directory on the master DB, and it ran out of disk space!  I think that's cleared up, but now I need to restart the whole process. Copying files again, will probably be back up by 10AM  EDT.

Hi Evan, has the missing

Hi Evan, has the missing dents issue been fixed? Have not seen an update to this post since 3 November, and most of my dents 2 weeks ago are still not restored. Wondering if it is just me or the recovery is still not complete. Thanks.

Wrong DBMS

Seems like most failures in Identi.ca are related to MySQL, just as expected from the experience of other sites. Better to just go PostgreSQL…
