@evan and I are in San Jose for OSCON and naturally we're calling a dent event. Time: tomorrow night at 5:00 PM. Location: Gordon Biersch at 33 E San Fernando St, a short walk from the San Jose Convention Center. Gordon Biersch has tasty beer and upscale pub grub. No need to be an OSCON attendee to come to the Dent Event, all identi.ca users and other interested parties are welcome. We look forward to seeing you there!
It's been one year since the public launch of identi.ca on July 2, 2008.
At the time, I'd been working on the software for a few months, and after some friendly beta testing by Montreal tech folks, longtime Free-Software-loving friends, and autonomo.us members, I felt that it was time to Release Early, Release Often. So on vacation in Lake Tahoe, I sent out an announcement email to beta users at 5:30AM PDT.
Control Yourself, Inc. (Montreal, Quebec, Canada), producer of Open Source Twitter alternative Laconica and host of the popular microblogging site identi.ca, announced the launch of a private beta of a new microblogging hosting service, status.net.
