Laconica version 0.6.4 release tonight on Identi.ca

Quick note: we'll be releasing a new version of Laconica on Identi.ca tonight, December 11 2008, at 11PM EDT. Although it is a minor release, it will include some new user-visible features, such as "blocking" unwanted subscribers, and finer-grained control of subscription output.

Identi.ca will be down for about 15-20 minutes.

Congratulations to Pownce!

I want to take a second to congratulate the Pownce team on their acquisition by Six Apart. 6A is a great company doing really interesting work, and it sounds like it's going to be a great opportunity for both groups.

One of the downsides is that the Pownce site will be shutting down on Dec. 15.

Laconica 0.6.3 on Identi.ca

Last night's upgrade of Identi.ca to the newest version of Laconica went well (although it started about an hour and a half later than expected). The site is operating well, although not all new features were enabled. An overview of some of the newest stuff:

  • User profiles now have a 'nudge' link (right under the avatar) so you can tell a friend that they're missed.
  •  Twitter friend sync.

Identi.ca upgrade at 11PM EST Sun 23 Nov 2008

(Update:  We had a couple of cool features and optimizations that we really want to see go out in a pack, so we postponed our upgrade from Thursday night to Sunday night.)

Identi.ca will be down for about 10-20 minutes tonight, 20 Nov 2008, at about 11PM EST, for a software upgrade. We're trying to do a code drop once a week at this point, on Thursday nights.

Last week's upgrade was a big mess; hopefully tonight's goes much more smoothly.

Welcoming new employees at Control Yourself

We have not one but three new employees at Control Yourself, and I'd like to take a moment to introduce them.

Aric Gardner is our new system administrator. He's a young, self-taught Linux user, active in the local LUG community. He's working hard to get our ad hoc collection of servers on different providers more stable and reliable, and providing an upgrade path to scale our server load as needed in the future. He started last week and already has our servers well-monitored and documented.

Identi.ca in the news

Two new media references worth reading in the last week:

Definitely both worth adding to our clippings file.

Laconica 0.6.1 delayed until Sunday night

Brief notice: Laconica 0.6.1's release (a minor release with some bugfixes, optimizations and API enhancements) will be delayed until Sunday, 5 Oct at midnight EDT. This should allow us to incorporate any optimizations that are made during Codefest 2.2.
