pause button and automatic pause sometimes cease to work

4. ''maybe'' experience #2091 (timeline playing beneath the attachment)
5. view the timeline without the attachment

= Bug =
Timeline continues to play but sometimes:
* the play icon (not the pause icon) is displayed
* clicking the switch does not pause the timeline.

I have seen this a few times in at least two different browsers, logged in to the OS as different users, but I can't quite put my finger on the routine that precedes the bug; references from this ticket to #2105 and #2091 are ''maybes''.
