It is set to 1 Jan 1970.

the updated date/time should be the same as the published date/time

example:

2009-12-02T11:51:22+00:00
2009-12-02T12:51:22+00:00

I've been unable to find any Atom feeds with a broken updated date like that; if you're still seeing it, please include the URL to the problematic feed.
