Updates
#1
Screen shots at http://www.wuala.com/StatusNet/2218
= Workaround =
Use GIMP (or similar) to:
1. enlarge the canvas, to be square, without changing the ratio or size of the image
2. make the new part of the canvas look OK with the required image
3. upload the alternative square version of the image.
#2
Another use case: http://www.wuala.com/StatusNet/2218 screen shots 003 and 004.
The notion is for the avatar in ''SCS'' for CENTRIM to closely resemble the avatar in the main web site for CENTRIM. In this use case, it's '''not'' a square close-up on the mug shot that's required; it's a zoomed out view of the (rectangular) avatar in its entirety.
= Motivation =
Make hosted services as user-friendly as possible, without requiring end users (who may have zero interest in image editing software) to change canvas sizes etc..
