Twice this afternoon I composed a message, made a small attachment (dragged to the paper clip icon), clicked send, the message was lost.
I'll attach a screen shot of the second failure.

:-( Trac here still failing to accept attachments

> the second failure
On closer inspection, I found (then deleted) that one. (It was out of context, I probably forgot to click the reply icon in conversation view).
The first failure definitely occurred and there's no trace of the message at http://identi.ca/grahamperrin/ but I don't have any screen shot evidence of what was composed before I clicked ''Send''. Maybe it was a repeat of a previously reported bug, where StatusNet loses without warning a message with attachment that has too few free characters.

This bug looks to be the same issue I have from time to time so I'll add to this bug rather than create a new bug. When I attach a screen shot to a message the message does not get posted a good percentage of the time. I have recreated this bug on two different connections, DSL and my high speed corporate network. All of my home PCs run Ubuntu 10.04 and my work PC using Ubuntu 9.10. I can recreate this issue in Firefox and Chrome. To reproduce the bug I do the following:
1. Login to http://identi.ca, if not already.
2. Type text in the message box.
3. Click on the "Attach a file" icon and select the .png file.
4. Press the Send button and wait for a second for it to complete.
5. I don't see the message so I refresh the browser at http://identi.ca/pla1
6. Still no message.
I have captured the TCP packets using Wireshark. I don't see anything unusual. I have attached a text file with the Wireshark data. Scroll down to line 1530 to see that the identi.ca server returns an HTTP 200 OK from the POST. I have also attached the screenshot I was trying to send. Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks, PLA

Just re-added the attachments I spoke of in comment #4. The file attachments tool is a little tricky here. You still have to hit Save after adding your attachments. Thanks, PLA
