Freelish.us do not import del.icious bookmark.xml

Issue ID:3162
Issue Category:enhancement
Component:plugin
Priority:normal
Status:active
Assigned:Unassigned
Keywords:delicious

Using the API ( curl --user user:passwd -o bookmarks.xml -O 'https://api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all' ), I got a file bookmarks.xml and tried to upload it to freelish.us. Yet, it didn't work and I didn't received much feedback bsides "import in progress". So after 30 minutes, I tried again, without any error messages again ( and no notice were added ).

Once I used a backup in the html format, it worked fine.

Either the documentation and error messages should be improved, or the plugin should support importing from the API file.

Updates

The import in HTML didn't work for me (@habi@freelish.us), also without error/warning.

update: Now (30. April 2011, 17:20) it worked. And as noted from other comments, a link to your profile and/or a short explanation where to find the imported links would help newbies)

I don't know if this is the same issue or merely a similar one.

I've tried two HTML imports of Delicious without success. One was from the same HTML file that I used to successfully import into diigo.com several months back.

The second was a "delicious-style" HTML export acquired from diigo.com just now.

I'm flit@delicious.com and theothergretchen@diigo.com, respectively. (and flit@freelish.us) I have 1479 items on delicious and 1503 items on diigo. @misc was able to import from delicious via HTML so I am wondering if it is the size of the import (I have a lot of links, some of them old and possibly no longer working) or the fact that I use some punctuation characters in my tags. ('/' from before there were tag bundles in delicious, since I started there back when it was del.icio.us, and '*' in some tags.)

Both imports uploaded the file and told me my bookmarks would be ready in a few minutes, but it's been 17 hours since the first one and 9 since the second. If this is simply a case of it taking longer than a few minutes or a few hours, maybe the user messages need to be updated to reflect that.

#3

Update: I poked around some more and found the imported bookmarks. Confusingly they weren't in my 'home' but under 'profile' -- a place I'd normally only look for profile settings, not actual content. I'm not familiar with the conventions on this site, but it's a little jarring for a new user.

Perhaps the message could indicate where the notices are actually stored for us clueless newbies?

My tags with '/' characters had that character silently removed, and since there are now 1825 notices I have to assume that there were some duplicates between the two uploads, though I haven't yet gone through them to see which ones were duplicated. Restricting '/' makes perfect sense; it was an unwise use of a tag element, though it worked really well for a while on del.icio.us as a primitive way to nest tags -- but removing it rather than converting it into another character makes those tags really hard to use or read on freelish.us.

So the actual import does appear to work, it just is not obvious where the content actually appears, so it would perhaps be a good idea to update the message to reflect that. I also think it should tell the user if it is changing tags, or perhaps offer an option of mass-converting an illegal character in a tag into a legal character.

I can also relate to problems like this. I have a 3000+ bookmark file I tried to import and it only got 68 out of that, while at the same time taking a loong time to process.

now any new attempt give me this failure:
