Event plugin breaks everything with PHP 5.2.3

The docs say that PHP 5.2.3 is acceptable, but things might work with 5.3. In fact, if you have anything less than PHP 5.3, the whole site falls apart (no notices displayed, etc) in its default configuration because the Event plugin uses http://php.net/manual/en/datetime.gettimestamp.php
