According to the PHP documentation, this feature has been deprecated in 5.3.0 and removed since 5.4.0.

So I guess this bug won't be fixed :)

Debian stable currently provides PHP 5.3.
Since safe mode is *already* deprecated, you'd better stop using it from now :)
