Mistyped @username shouldn't get posted

Mistyped @username shouldn't get posted

Issue ID:486
Issue Category:enhancement
Component:api
Priority:major
Status:will not fix
Assigned:zach
Milestone:1.0
Keywords:IM

If a user posts a reply message using @username at the beginning of the message and no user with name 'username' exists, it should be considered a mistake and the message shouldn't get posted.

User should get an error as feedback(as appropriate for the user interface used) so that the user will know to correct the mistake and try posting the message again. This is what happens on Jaiku.

I would like that too

Is this RE API specifically or UI as well?

Seems like flagging "mistakes" in dents might be a huge can of worms. Would we want to do other input validation? I'd say post everything that comes in.

it comes handy when we want to abreviate something or even refer to some user that doesnt exist on this system.

I for one, on Jaiku, abreviate lots of time the nick o CaffeineJunky with a plain @CJ.

-1, I sometime @-reply to people on twitter from identi.ca and they sometimes do not have identi.ca accounts.

I should be able to post any 140 chars I want.

#5

-1 too. i use @edy a lot, instead of @edythemighty!

I think that it's probably a bad idea to do this. Users can always delete a bad notice and re-post.
