Can't set a password when logged in via OpenID

This is a duplicate of #118, but I couldn't figure out how to leave a comment there.
I wanted to set a password on my account for use with identichat, but my account was created via openid. If I visit the password settings page and enter the same new password twice, I'm sent back to the main profile edit page with the following error:
Nickname must have only lowercase letters and numbers and no spaces.
My nickname meets these criteria already, and I'm not sure why I don't go back to the main password page. Logging in with the password I tried to set also fails.

Updates
#1
Confirming the bug, I have exactly the same problem. Looks like a bug on the set password page.
#2
And, as was hinted at in #118, I did a "recover password" and set it that way, so I'm no longer able to test this.
#3
I can confirm this. The recover password trick worked, but without a password I couldn't delete notices
