Groups are a useful method of listening to notices related to a specific area and discovering people who share your interests.

Joining/leaving a group

You can browse the list of available groups from the homepage by clicking on the 'groups' link. Direct link for Identi.ca users: http://identi.ca/group

If you see a group of interest, simply click 'Join' to become a member of the Group.

If you subsequently discover you aren't truly a committed fan of 'YakShaving', you can unsubscribe from any Group by clicking 'Leave'.

A list of your current group subscriptions is displayed on your profile page (below 'Subscriptions' and 'Subscribers').

You can also become a group member of a federated group. So if you have an account on identi.ca you can post to a group at brainbird for example.

Creating a group

You can search to see if anyone has created a group for your area of interest. If not, feel free to create a group, by clicking on 'create a new group'. Direct link for Identi.ca users: http://identi.ca/group/new

Communicating with a group

Groups have logos and members. All members of a group will see messages posted to the group.

To post a notice to a group, precede the group name with an exclamation mark (!). For example, 'Great review of identi.ca at microblogging.com !identica'.

The '!group' element may appear anywhere in the notice.

You must be a member of a group to post to it.
