What if you had a software tool that could convert your spoken words into a good-looking printable status report… with a couple of clicks?
And what if the tool added your name, date, report name, and created a beautiful layout… automatically?
Pretty cool, right?
Who said status reports couldn’t be fun!
To get started, create your status.net account (if you don’t have it) and select a template such as Weekly Report, Daily Status Report, etc.
How to do it on a mobile device
1. Open a web browser on your mobile device and login to your status.net account. Choose your feed, e.g., Weekly Report or Daily Report.
2. Activate the “Update” field by clicking it. Your keyboard will appear.
3. Dictate the body of your report.
Click on the microphone icon and dictate your update (e.g., what tasks you completed today/this week and what tasks are planned for tomorrow/next week). Make sure to dictate commas, periods, spacing, capitalization and other punctuation marks.
Click “Done” in the middle of the screen when you’re finished.
(If you don’t see the microphone icon on your iPhone keyboard, enable dictation by going to Settings > General > and Keyboards.)
Click on the microphone icon and dictate your update (e.g., what tasks you completed today/this week and what tasks are planned for tomorrow/next week). Make sure to dictate to dictate commas, periods, spacing, capitalization and other punctuation marks.
Click the red microphone icon in the middle of the keyboard when you’re finished.
(If you don’t see the microphone icon on your Android keyboard, enable dictation by going to Settings.)
4. Correct any typos if needed and click the “Update” button to save your update.
5. Click “Generate Report” whenever you need it. Done!
Huge time saver: no matter if you added your updates by dictation or by typing, status.net will add your name, date, report name, and will create a beautiful layout for your report automatically.
Tip for weekly reports: you can add one update (usually on Friday) and generate your report right away, or either you can add updates every day and then generate one report for the whole week by choosing a date range.
How to do it on a desktop computer
All steps beside step 3 will be the same as described above.
Tip: go to your feed’s settings to set up reminders, and status.net will send automatic reminders (e.g., every week on Fridays) so you’ll never forget to create your report.
